   PRESIDENTS REPORT - 2008 - 2009
 
     
 

The President welcomes all to the Annual General Meeting of 2008/2009 which is held at De Kelder Restaurant in George with some live entertainment provided by Bronwyn.

The following meetings were held in 2008-2009:

23 July 2008
BPW held a networking evening in the form of “ 5 minutes of fame”  at Loerie Guest Lodge in George. All members were invited to promote their businesses and distribute some marketing material amongst the members present. Snacks and drinks were enjoyed by all after the meeting.


22 August 2008
The BPW Outeniqua yearly weekend Breakaway was held on a farm in the De Rust area. The attending members stayed over at Lindikwe Lodge and visits to the Jans Rautenbach farm school and the local farm was enjoyed. Afterwards Pauline Lourens organized that a collection of books was donated to the farm school.


 September 2008
Riana Appel decided to relocate to Knysna and subsequently resigned from the BPW Outeniqua Board. Lettie Squire was to take over the Phambili Projects from her. Tracy Compton also decided to move down to Cape Town and resigned from her position as Vice-President. The committee decided to leave the position vacant for the time being. Beryl Crawford resigned her Membership position as she also decided to make a move down to Cape Town.

No formal meeting was held for September 2008. A function was organized by Frieda Henning for the launch of the Journey of Hope event.


30 October 2008
“ Health issues” was the topic of the month with guest speaker Nico Els delivering an interesting talk on cancer and relevant treatments. The meeting was held at Loerie Guest Lodge and the members had dinner at The Royal Moose restaurant.


29 November 2008
The yearly Christmas Party was held at Meade House Emporium in the form of a “funky hat” lunch. Small gifts were exchanged amongst the attending members as a small token of goodwill.

 28 January 2009
A general networking evening was held at the Royal Moose restaurant with the President delivering a short few notes on The Principles of Highly Effective Networking. All the ladies present introduced themselves with a few short remarks on their business. Dinner was enjoyed afterwards at the restaurant.


25 February 2009
The annual International Candlelighting Ceremony with an Hawaiin theme was held at the President’s house in Heatherpark. The function was held outside as it was a beautiful summer’s evening. The table’s were festively decorated and snacks were served from the kitchen of Alta Viljoen. All the candles were lit by ways of a special dedication ceremony and afterwards members were entertained by some lovely melodies sung by Bronwyn

25 March 2009
The committee arranged an evening at the Alpine Inn German Restaurant where Sanita Branford gave an interesting talk on “Money Mistakes”. Dinner was served afterwards and the ladies enjoyed a delicious German meal.


22 April 2009
As this month celebrates the birthday of the Refuge a meeting was held at Phambili Refuge with the board giving feedback to the BPW Committee on all the happenings at the shelter and a wish list with all the needed items.


A birthday party was held at the shelter on 25 April 2009 with lots of sponsored foods and gifts handed over to the residents.


27 May 2009
Members enjoyed a delightful “Cook-out evening” at Eden Culinary School where Chef Karen demonstrated some speciality dishes for “Business Women on the Run”. Dishes and wine were served to the members after being freshly prepared.

Together with the resignation of three Committee members this has been a busy year for the BPW Outeniqua Club with some interesting and relevant topics to cater for each one’s taste. Many donations were received for the Phambili Shelter and the projects are running very smoothly in general. The President wishes everyone a delightful evening and trust that they will enjoy the meal and music served.
